Wat Arun
in Thailand (Asia)

Wat Arun (meaning Temple of the Dawn in english) is one of the most famous landmarks of Thailand (and Bangkok as well). It is a buddhist temple named after the Indian god of dawn Aruna.

Wat Arun was founded at the beginning of 19th century where monastery already existed. The temple consits of one taller cental tower (so called "prang" - term for Khmer-style tower) and 4 smaller ones. All these towers are supported by numerous demons and monkeys and the top of every tower is extended with a Shiva's trident.

The central tower is about 76 meters (250 ft) tall and its balcony that offers marvelous view at the city can be accessed using rather steep stairs.
