Sultan Ahmed Mosque
in Istanbul (Turkey / Europe)

Sultan Ahmed Mosque known as Blue Mosque as well was build at the beginning of 17th century with controversial 6 minarets because the common maximum of minarets in those days was 4.

The interior of the mosque is decorated with more than 20.000 hand-made tiles and because many of these are blue the mosque got its second name of "Blue Mosque".

The mosque serves as a place of worship till these days and is the second Muslim place of worship that was visited by pope (in this case Benedict XVI on 30 November 2006).
