Sri Mahamariamman Temple is the oldest Hindu temple in Kuala Lumpur and is said to be the richest of them as well. The temple is rather new (founded in 1873) and during it's first century of existence it was completely rebuilt twice. Current form of the temple was finished in 1968 and in 1972 the building got it's famous gate tower that is almost 23 meters (75 feet) tall. The tower is decorated with many small sculpts of Hindu gods.
Inside of the temple visitors can see a silver chariot that has a major role during the annual Thaipusam festival. The chariot is user to transport the statues of Lord Muruga to the Batu Caves (13km north of Kuala Lumpur).
