Prambanan
in Java (Indonesia / Asia)

Prambanan is the largest Hindu temple compound in Indonesia and belongs to the largest Hindu temples in Asia. Build in 9th century the complex consists of 16 temples with the most significant one located in the center and dedicated to Siva. Two other main temples are dedicated to Vishnu and Brahma.

The Siva temple contains four chambers with a statue in each of them. Siva statue is located in the central chamber and other chambers house statuses of Durga (wife of Siva), Ganesha (Siva's son) and Agastya (Siva's teacher).

Both the Vishnu temple and Brahma temple have only a single chamber each with the statue of the corresponding god.

Opening hours and admission

Tickets can be bought in the reception building with following prices:

  • foreign visitor: 13 USD
  • foreign visitor - registered student: 7 USD
  • Indonesians: 15.000 - 17.500 Rupiah

The complex opens at 6 a.m. and it's recommended to arrive as soon as possible because later during the morning lots of visitors arrive as well.

You should be able to hire a guide in the reception building as well. The price should be about 5 USD.
