Jeita Grotto is a complex of two cave systems that became a Lebanese national symbol and a major tourist attraction in Lebanon. It became a finalist of the New 7 Wonders of Nature poll as well.
The cave system consisting of Upper Grotto and Lower Grotto is the longest cave compound in the Middle East.
In the Upper Grotto visitors can explore about 750 meters out of its overall length of almost 2200 meters. The accessible part consists of 3 large chambers containing many formations like stalactites, stalagmites etc. It the first chamber called the White Chamber there is the longest stalactite on the world, which is 8.2 meters (27 ft) tall. The second and third chambers are quite impressive, because they are more then 100 meters high.
The Lower Grotto is with about 6200 meters in length even longer and because an underground river flows through, visitors can take a ride in an electric boat. The ride that is about 500 meters long is operated throughout the year except for winter when the water level rises.
