Baphuon
in Cambodia (Asia)

Baphuon is a large temple-mountain built in 11th century by the king of Khmer Empire who dedicated it to the Hindu god Shiva. Later during the 12th century a new capital city of Khmer Empire called Angkor Thom was build around it.

Unluckily foundations of the Baphuon temple were not stable enough and it lead to serious collapses. In 1960 the French started massive reconstruction of the remains but in 1972 they had to left the work unfinished due to the civil war in Cambodia. During the war all documentation was destroyed and the disassembled temple became the largest puzzle in the world.

At present the reconstruction still continues but visitors can access parts of the temple.
